Small business group welcomes Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship leadership, urges focus on policies that bolster Main Street and our economy

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Co-chair Anne Zimmerman, Owner of Zimmerman & Co CPAs Inc.

Jan. 13, 2025– “We welcome incoming Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship Chair Joni Ernst who has a long tenure on the committee. As small business owners navigate increasingly complex challenges, we know her experience will provide valuable insight into developing effective solutions for Main Street's most pressing needs.

“We also welcome Ranking Member Senator Edward J. Markey and are eager to hear their policy ideas to advance America’s 35 million small businesses, which are the backbone of the U.S. economy.

“Main Street businesses are major drivers of the economy generating over 70% of the nation's net new jobs since 2019. They are valuable contributors to their communities, providing employment, goods and services, economic activity and civic support. Their needs must be met so we can all succeed.

“That includes reforms to the tax code. With provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) set to expire this year, policies that genuinely support small business growth must be developed. According to our surveys of small business owners the TCJA did little for Main Street with 80% of small business owners reporting it did not help them hire new employees or invest in their businesses.

“The work of this committee for the 119th Congress will shape how small businesses thrive and grow. We look forward to the progress and possibilities that lie ahead and working with the committee.”
