Small business group: Affordable Care Act remains the law of the land in a big win for small business
Statement by Rhett Buttle, senior advisor to Small Business for America’s Future and former Director of Private Sector Engagement in the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, on Supreme Court’s dismissal of ACA challenge
Washington, D.C., June 17, 2021—The Supreme Court’s decision today to dismiss the latest challenge to the Affordable Care Act is a big win for small business and comes at a time when our nation's Main Street entrepreneurs are relying on the ACA more than ever to provide their employees health insurance.
The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted how interconnected our healthcare system and economy are and the ACA has been vital for employers and employees during this challenging time.
Today’s decision needs to put to bed any further challenges to the landmark healthcare law. Now, we must build on the ACA’s success and find bipartisan solutions to bring down rising healthcare costs, which have severely impacted small businesses. According to Small Business for America’s Future’s recent national survey of small business owners, 75% of small business owners providing health coverage have seen their costs rise over the last four years and 55% say the rising costs have delayed growth opportunities for their business.
Small business owners are the backbone of the nation's economy, driving economic growth and job creation. As we recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, protecting healthcare coverage and finding ways to make it more affordable will be essential to our economic recovery as a county.
