Small Business Democracy

 A STRONG AMERICAN DEMOCRACY MEANS
A STRONG ECONOMY

Trust in democracy is a cornerstone of the American economy — and no one understands this more than small business owners. The financial success of small businesses relies on the rule of law and peaceful transitions of power to provide jobs. With our nation’s democratic system under more stress than ever, the small business community is a critical voice in the fight to preserve our free, open, and democratic system.

We are small business owners throughout North Carolina dedicated to protecting our elections, rebuilding trust in democratic institutions, and addressing the threats to our democracy at all levels. We are the engine of economic stability and growth in our community; we must NOW be that engine to preserve our Democracy.

Please join us by participating in our Small Business American Democracy Values Initiative to protect Democracy, our economy, and our country. By joining with hundreds of other small business owners, you agree to the basic principle below and agree to implement the following within your business:

Small Business American Democracy Values:

  • No matter your zip code, race, ethnicity, color, who you vote for, what language you speak, or whether you are our customers, one thing is clear: we ALL value the right to vote and believe that ALL eligible Americans should have fair and safe access to this fundamental right;

  • I believe that electoral districts should be drawn fairly and impartially

  • I will only support candidates and elected officials that affirm they will uphold the results of free and fair elections and the established process for certifying election results
  • I will only support candidates and elected officials that support legislation that makes voting easier for ALL eligible North Carolina residents

  • Establish automatic voter registration.  Eligible citizens who provide information to state agencies (including state departments of motor vehicles or public universities) would be automatically registered to vote unless they opt out of doing so

  • Require states to offer same-day voter

  • Make Election Day a national holiday
  • Require states to provide online voter registration

  • Expand the current secured opportunities to vote by mail

  • Increase the penalties for any individual that engages in election fraud

  • Hold early voting for at least two weeks at voting sites that are convenient
