STATEMENT: Texas small business owners encouraged by administration’s focus on investment in the Latino community
Statement by Alma Del Toro, Co-Founder and Co-President of Blue Wave Supplier Development Program, on Vice President’s remarks in Houston highlighting the specific needs of the Latino population
Houston, T.X., Nov. 27, 2023 – “As a proud member of the Latino community and an advocate for small businesses, I am heartened by Vice President Kamala Harris’ remarks in Houston today. Her participation in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’s community conversation is a welcome demonstration of the administration’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Latino small business community.
“Vice President Harris’ remarks in the 29th District of Texas, one of the most heavily Latino congressional districts in the country, underscores the administration’s commitment to finding tailored approaches to meet the specific needs of Latinos. This includes addressing disparities in healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.
“We are encouraged by the administration’s efforts and ask lawmakers to support policies that foster an environment where Latino small businesses can flourish and contribute even more to their communities and the economy. Today’s discussion is a step forward in ensuring that the voices of Latino entrepreneurs are heard and their needs are met.”
Small Business for America’s Future Senior Adviser Rhett Buttle added, “The administration’s focus on small business is a crucial aspect of the broader economic strategy. Vice President Harris’ engagement today highlights the administration’s dedication to inclusivity and prosperity for all. By addressing the specific needs and challenges of local communities, we are supporting a vital segment of our economy.”
Here’s what a Texas small business owner who attended the event today is saying:
“Legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act have helped small businesses navigate tough times and provided new opportunities to accelerate the energy transition in communities that experience a disproportionate share of energy insecurity and energy poverty. Vice President Harris' visit today shows an ongoing commitment to addressing the challenges and opportunities of Latino-owned businesses and the Latino community."
