STATEMENT: Small business group encouraged by bipartisan immigration legislation, a strong first step towards needed reform

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Co-chair Walt Rowen, President of Susquehanna Glass Company in Columbia, Pa.

Feb. 6, 2024– “It’s encouraging to see lawmakers work across the aisle to develop legislation that moves us toward fixing our broken immigration system.

“With a strong economy and an unprecedented surge in small business ventures—with over 16 million new enterprises established since 2021—driving demand for workers , fixing the immigration system is an important issue for entrepreneurs. They recognize that immigration reform will benefit their businesses, positively impact their communities and bolster the broader economy.

“That’s why we welcome the Senate’s bipartisan efforts to forge ahead with this crucial legislation. This bill represents a promising foundation, reflecting a commitment to addressing a vital issue that directly impacts Main Street and strengthens our economy.

“Recognizing the significance of immigration reform in enhancing workforce availability and supporting the growth of small businesses, we are eager to engage with policymakers on this issue to maximize the potential of immigration reform to invigorate our economy while upholding our values as a nation.”
